Property Damage Got You Down?

Posted on: Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

Property Damage Doesn't Have to be Difficult to Recover From

Recovery after property damage doesn't have to be hard.

Texans Recovering From Storms

This season has been tough for Texas. Storms in the south recently devastated countless homes in McAllen, Phar, Edinburg, and much of Hidalgo County. To the north, residents of Ellis, Dallas and Collin counties, especially the city of Lancaster, are facing heavy losses after severe weather damage.

Home owners across the state are facing property damage after onslaughts of hail, thunderstorms, gale force winds and even tornadoes aplenty, leaving them frustrated and unsure how to proceed. Filing a home insurance claim can be a tiring process, not to mention actually making the repairs after your claim is awarded. Many homeowners wonder if their home or property will ever be exactly the way it was before.

There is hope!

Now is the Time to Make Good Choices About Home Insurance Claims

Weather damage doesn’t have to leave a permanent scar on your home. Filing an insurance claim doesn’t have to be exhausting, either. Your home or property can be restored perfectly to the beauty it held before the storm, if you act carefully and make the right choices!

After large scale storms, insurance companies are frequently overwhelmed, which can lead to them dispatching inexperienced adjusters to review your claim. During these stressful times, overworked insurance employees might miss a lot of work that is necessary to restore your property. If the full scope of repairs isn’t included in the claim, it’s the homeowner who loses out most! The best way to make an informed estimate is by involving a contractor from the beginning.

An experienced home insurance claims contractor can make sure that both you and your insurance agency thoroughly understand the specifics about the types and quantities of materials involved in the repair, as well as the manpower that will be necessary on the labor end. To be sure that your home is restored immaculately to its former condition, it is critical to get professional estimates from a home insurance claims contractor before your claim is filed.

Top 15 Things You Shouldn’t Do By Yourself

Posted on: Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Let’s face it, there are some things you just shouldn’t do alone. Whether because you don’t have the necessary expertise, or because…well…you would look like a lunatic! So to save yourself from potential embarrassment, disaster, or other misfortunes of the like, we have created a top 15 countdown of Things You Shouldn’t Do By Yourself. We hope you find this enjoyable, entertaining, and who knows, maybe even slightly informative.

15. Piano duets

Try to play both parts of a piano duet by yourself and your fingers will probably end up in knots. We can’t imagine it will sound very nice either.

14. The buddy system

The buddy system requires a buddy. Always. No exceptions. Otherwise it is just… the system.

13. Play Monopoly

Parker Brothers states that the game of Monopoly is intended for 2 – 8 players. But aside from this fact we imagine that the only thing more boring and tedious than playing Monopoly is playing Monopoly against yourself.

12. Conga line

Form a conga line by yourself in the middle of the dance floor and you are likely to get some pretty strange glares (probably not the impression you want to make at your next family event).

11. Three-legged races

We’re not even sure how you would begin to attempt this one on your own!

10. Tandem bicycle

Riding solo on a bicycle built for two likely wouldn’t turn out well for you, the bicycle, or anyone else unfortunate enough to be in the immediate vicinity.

9. Drive in the carpool lane

As tempting as it may be to fly by bumper-to-bumper traffic, get caught alone in the carpool lane and you might just find yourself with a $300+ ticket! Yikes!

8. Hold hands

For some reason holding hands with yourself isn’t nearly as satisfying as with a partner. You will also wind up looking a bit silly.

7. Tug-of-war

Try to play this game by yourself and you will probably end up falling on your backside. Trust us, it’s not worth the bruises!

6. Man a cruise ship

The Titanic had 900 crewmembers and still ended in tragedy. We really can’t see how it would have worked out better with only 1.

5. Acupuncture

Unless you are a trained expert, performing your own acupuncture is likely to leave you tenser than when you began.

4. Climb Everest

Next time you embark on a trek up the world’s highest peak, we highly recommend you seek the company of a guide. But hey, it’s only a suggestion.

3. Honeymoon

Something tells us if you spend your honeymoon alone a divorce might be in your near future.

2. Fill your own cavity

Even a well-trained dentist shouldn’t attempt to fill his own cavity. For the sake of your smile we highly recommend you bring some outside expertise on this one.

1. Home improvement

Attempting to tackle your own home improvement projects without the necessary knowledge or expertise is as senseless as trying to fill your own cavity. California Doors and Windows can make your home improvement process easier and less stressful by providing the expertise you need. In fact, our construction experts are some of the most experienced in San Diego. Sometimes in order to do it right all you need is help from the right people!

Make Showering Easy and Enjoyable Again

The use of a walk-in tub does NOT represent a lack of independence, nor does it portray a sense of slowing down. Rather, Maroh Walk-In Tubs were created to help individuals celebrate and enjoy life. This state-of-the-art creation invites you to indulge on the finer things in life by making something as habitual as showering pleasurable rather than stressful. It is your perfect getaway, right from the comfort of your home.

Of the many benefits a walk-in tub may provide, hydrotherapy is often the most appealing to consumers’ eyes. California Doors & Windows offers a walk-in tub complete with 18 air jets and 10 water jets to soothe your aches and pains. Water treatment has long been distinguished as one of the safest methods of healing ailments related to medical and aging issues. Hydrotherapy increases blood circulation and reduces joint pain and inflammation resulting from rheumatoid arthritis by increasing blood flow. It reduces the effects of stress, lowers blood pressure, and improves sleep. In addition to the hydrotherapy treatment, you also get your own massage therapy sessions right in your home. The water jets deliver a strong pressurized force to loosen the tightness in your muscles after a long day. At the same time, the air jets offer a more gentle massage as streams of soft bubbles delight every part of your body. It relieves your back and knee pains, and gives those tired feet a break from standing all day long. As you enjoy the hydrotherapy of your own personal jacuzzi tub, you are comfortably plopped on the custom head and seat pillows.

While the air and water jets provide you with the hydrotherapy and much needed massages, the other physical attributes of our senior walk-in tubs provide the safety and convenience necessary to enjoy the therapeutic benefits in the first place. Each California Doors & Windows walk-in tub comes with its patented 2/5” step up into the tub, the lowest in the industry. This design is intended to consider seniors and individuals with disabilities who have a hard time getting in and out of the shower, providing them with the bath safety they will need. Your hydrotherapy tub has a swinging entry door that is easy to open and close. Both the seat and the floor of the walk in bathtubs have a slip-resistant surface that makes sure you don’t slip. The walk in bathtubs also feature safety grab bars for individuals to hold onto while getting in and out of them. Our claims about our walk in tubs are not sales pitches. They are ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant.

Walk-In Tubs: Independent Getaways

Posted on: Monday, April 19th, 2010

Even years ago, the Greeks and the Romans were aware of the many benefits baths provided. The Romans bathed to keep themselves healthy while the Greeks viewed baths as a cleansing ritual before or after a day’s work and even before battle.  These benefits still stand today, with baths offering the comfort and relief essential to alleviating stress and to the soothing of muscles.

Walk-in tubs can offer these same benefits to non-ambulatory bathers.  These tubs are designed with an emphasis on safety and ease of use while still creating a luxurious environment for its users.  Entry into the tub is easy, with users being able to walk in without having to raise their foot more than a few inches off the floor.  The built-in cushioned seat gives bathers that are unable to stand the independence to bathe themselves and it also provides a comfortable place to sit and bathe, thus taking weight off joints and muscles.  Other features of walk-in tubs include safety rails both inside and out, slip resistant flooring, a hand-held shower head and adjustable air and hydro jets that can provide localized comfort.

Walk-In Tub

These features of walk-in tubs make it feasible for non-ambulatory users to experience the therapy and comfort of bathing but more importantly, walk-in tubs provide independence and dignity to those who had to previously rely on others for many their needs.

Baths offer getaways from long commutes, stressful workdays and the noise of everyday life and walk-tubs make it possible for everyone to independently enjoy these moments of luxury.

Windows of Opportunities

Windows of Opportunities

By Tiffany E. Hernandez

Throw open your window and let the scenery of clouds and sky enter your room!”
-Yosa Buson

While windows provide practical functions for the home such as lighting, ventilation, and creating the feel of more space, they also serve as portals to the beauty of the outdoors and can add to the style of any room.  There are many different types of windows to choose from, each with their own purpose and added value to the home.

Awning Windows are hinged at the top and open outward and can be placed above a window or door, allowing ventilation and light to enter the room while still maintaining privacy.

Bay Windows are traditionally comprised of a large picture window flanked by smaller windows set at different angles, thus providing multiple views of the outdoors and the illusion of a larger room.  The flow of natural light into a room is increased as these windows allow light to stream in from different angles.

Casement Windows are taller and narrower than awning windows, with the hinges placed on the sides.  They are ideal for placement in awkward areas such as above sinks, countertops or appliances in the kitchen because they are cranked open versus sliding up and down.  Their tight seals make them energy efficient, generally having lower leakage rates than sliding windows.

Double-Hung Windows are great for virtually any room.  The bottom window remains closed while the top can slide open, giving you easy access and great ventilation.

Picture Windows are a great choice if you are looking to incorporate the natural beauty of the outdoors with your home’s décor.  They are stationary windows that provide a clear view of the outdoors and can be combined with other window types to achieve a balance of ventilation and light.

Whether you are looking to re-decorate or to become more energy efficient, focusing on the possible types and placement of windows in your home are great ways to combine style and practicality to create a living space best represents you.
